Journey the Appalachian Trail

In 2021, Ligonier resident Dirk Matson at the age of 66 thru-hiked the 2,194 miles that make up the Appalachian Trail (AT). Given the trail name of Gobbler Whisperer (or GW), Dirk hiked across 14 states, starting in Georgia and ending in Maine. He trekked up to the highest point at Clingman's Dome in North Carolina (6,644 feet in elevation) and down to the lowest point near the Hudson River in New York (124 feet in elevation).

Join us on Tuesday, July 26 (2022) at 5:30 PM as we journey with Gobbler Whisperer on the AT, but from the comfort of the Ligonier Valley Library's Community Room. Dirk will share stories, experiences and photos from the journey.

Dirk has been an outdoor enthusiast all his life. He has been hiking for 25 years, including climbing Mt. Whitney 3 times, several 14,000 foot mountains in Colorado, and other trails in PA, WV, ID, CA and NV.
