LVL Marketing and Outreach Coordinator

The Ligonier Valley Library seeks a creative, community-minded Marketing and Outreach Coordinator to increase public awareness of our programs, services, and collections. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented communicator who enjoys working as part of small, collaborative team and making a visible impact in a close-knit rural community.

The coordinator will plan and implement marketing strategies, design promotional materials, manage digital communication channels, assist in the development of library programming, and represent the library at community events. As a frontline ambassador of the library, this position plays a key role in connecting with patrons of all ages and building partnerships throughout the Ligonier Valley.

Key Responsibilities:

Marketing & Communications

  • Design and distribute flyers, newsletters, social media posts, press releases, and other print/digital materials to promote library events, programs, and services.
  • Maintain and update the library’s website, event calendar, and social media presence (primarily Facebook and Instagram).
  • Work with local media outlets and civic organizations to increase the library’s visibility in the community.

Community Outreach

  • Support the development and implementation of innovative programming at the library, catering to the needs of the community.
  • Build relationships with local schools, nonprofits, and civic groups to support the library.
  • Represent the library at local events.

Internal Collaboration

  • Work closely with library staff to promote programs across all departments (children’s, teen, and adult).
  • Collaborate with staff to develop & implement creative outreach and programming initiatives.
  • Plan and support programming and outreach, including setup, documentation, and follow-up.
  • Track and report on outreach and marketing efforts, suggesting improvements and new ideas.
  • Provide coverage for the circulation desk, as needed.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, library science, or a related field and/or 1-2 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with social media, basic graphic design (e.g., Canva), and office software.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Enthusiasm for libraries, reading, and community engagement.

Preferred:

  • Experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or outreach (paid or volunteer).
  • Familiarity with small-town or rural communities.
  • Experience with email marketing, basic website updates (e.g., WordPress), or local media engagement.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a public library setting, with local travel for outreach. Some programs and outreach events may take place outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Requires lifting materials (up to 25 lbs), occasional setup/takedown of event tables, and evening/weekend hours.

Compensation:

  • $12-$14/hour, commensurate with experience.
  • 30 hours per week.
  • Paid time off and flexible scheduling.
  • This is an on-site position based in Ligonier, PA.
