Join us for a riveting lecture series with the scientists of the Powdermill Nature Reserve, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History’s environmental research center. Each month, we will have an expert in their field visit the library to tell us about their research.

June’s lecture will be with Dr. Rachel Reeb

Invasive plant species, which have been moved by humans to an area outside of their indigenous range, can have immense harmful impacts on society and the environment. At the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, our goal is to raise awareness and facilitate discussions about ‘the invasive species problem’ within our community. This seminar will 1) describe the history of human activities that have brought invasive species to western Pennsylvania, 2) explore the diverse impacts of invasive species on our community and the environment, and 3) highlight everyday solutions for preventing and managing invasive species in our area.

Speaker Bio: Rachel Reeb is a postdoctoral fellow and science communicator at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. Her research explores the dual impacts of invasive species and climate change on the health of forest and urban ecosystems.
