#61 The Drover House (301 E Main)

The Drover House

301 East Main Street

Matthew B. Smith purchased this property from Reverend Joseph Scroggs in 1882. The brick house replaced an earlier wood frame dwelling. It was a retail business office for the sale of livestock driven into town from the Smith family farm and stored in the barn directly behind the building. They were then driven down the alley to the railroad depot where they were shipped out all over the country. It was later the home of Matthew and Margaret Boyd Smith.
