Teen Astronomy Night Hike

October 21, 2025 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Join Environmental Educator, Lisa Meadows, for a Night Hike/Astronomy Watch on Tuesday, Oct 21 from 6:30-8:00PM at Laurel Summit State Park (just up the road from Linn Run).

Participants will meet at the Pavilion for Laurel Summit State Park. After a short discussion on the night life—including owls, bats, and other local critters—the group will head out for a short hike to explore for wildlife. After the hike, everyone will head to the bog to explore the stars of the night sky.

Please dress in layers including jackets, long pants, hiking shoes, and bring water and a flashlight.  Bring a hat and gloves if night temps are below 50 degrees. The bog can get very windy, so expect temperatures to be 10 degrees cooler than in town.

You can always take off your hat, but you can’t put it on if you didn’t bring one!

Directions:

Simply copy the following GPS coordinates into your map/GPS application of choice (or follow this link) and you should be given directions to the park:

40.11767415876399,     -79.17646051684486

Alternatively, here are manual directions from Ligonier to the park:

  1. Turn Left onto Route 30 from South Market Street
  2. After about 7½ miles on Route 30 turn right onto Laurel Summit Road
  3. Continue for about 2¼ miles then bear left to stay on Laurel Summit Rd
  4. Follow Laurel Summit Road for roughly another 3 miles and turn right onto Linn Run Rd, then another right at the sign for Laurel Summit State Park.
  5. You should see the pavilion on your right and parking lot on the left.  Please park in the gravel lot to the left and walk over to the pavilion.

This event is open to teens ages 12–18. Spots are limited, so register here if you’re interested!
