Blast Off Into Summer!

The Mission:
Embark with the Ligonier Valley Library on a fun summer adventure as we explore new worlds in a Universe of Stories.

5… 4… 3… 2… 1… The adventure begins on Sunday, June 23 at 2:00 pm at our out-of-this-world launch party and kickoff event! Join us as we blast off into a summer of fun for Preschoolers, K-6th graders, and 7th-12th graders. Everyone is encouraged to dress in their favorite space-themed costume – from a yellow shirt and glitter (to be a star) to Darth Vader (or come as your own wonderful self). In addition to some fun activities, we hope to have some visitors from a galaxy far, far away!

Preschoolers, with help from a family member, will color a rocket ship for each completed activity and earn a prize upon full card completion.

K-6th graders are given Bingo Cards. After completing each Bingo, pick a prize from our treasure box. Full card completion earns you a grand prize!

Teens (7th-12th graders)! You are being recruited to join an elite group of young explorers. Your mission goal is to complete as many tasks as possible and report to Headquarters (aka the library).

Added incentives for Preschoolers and K-6th graders: Attend events held at the library and be entered into a chance to win an awesome door prize (hint: we are a library). Complete your challenge and be entered into a secret grand-grand prize drawing (learn the details when you register for Summer Quest).

Registration will only take place in person at the Ligonier Valley Library (no online registration), either at the kick-off event or any day after… but the sooner the better. Please allow extra time when you come to register for filling out our registration card and being given instructions.

Every recruit will receive a packet upon registration that will include a calendar of events that families can pick and choose from to attend. Some events will be limited in number of attendance. Questions are always welcome! Commander Oates and Mission Specialist McDowell will guide you through the Preschool and K-6th grade programs. See Chief Engineer Bolen for more information on the 7th-12th grade program.

The 2019 summer theme is “A Universe of Stories!” which was inspired by the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing.

On July 20, 1969, American Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin became the first humans ever to land on the moon…
