Mystery Book Club

Death in the Stacks

A Mystery/Thriller Book Discussion Group @ the Ligonier Valley Library

Grab your lunch and delve with us virtually into the intriguing world of mysteries and thrillers!

NEXT MEETING: Friday, August 21 – The Darwin Affair by Tim Mason – at 1PM on Zoom

How book club will work with COVID-19 restrictions:

    • Instead of physical copies of the book, we will offer electronic copies.
    • To participate, you will need a WLN library card and the ability to borrow an eBook or eAudiobook.
    • Borrow the ebook or downloadable audiobook between August 3 -17.
    • Register at https://bit.ly/lvl-Death-in-the-Stacks-reg and we will email you an invite to the Ligonier Valley Library’s Zoom chat room.

How is this possible? Death in the Stacks will participate in the BIG LIBRARY READ (https://biglibraryread.com/) – a global eBook club that makes an electronic copy of a title available at the same time around the world without any wait lists or holds.

When can we sign up and attend? The Big Library Read’s program runs August 3-17. So you will want to borrow your eBook or eAudiobook on August 3rd or shortly after.

Death in the Stacks will meet virtually in our library’s Zoom chat room on FRIDAY, AUGUST 21 at 1:00PM. (The meeting will take place after the eBooks and eAudiobooks have automatically returned, so make good discussion notes.)

How do I borrow eBooks and eAudiobooks?

“London, June 1860: When an assassination attempt is made on Queen Victoria, and a petty thief is gruesomely murdered moments later—and only a block away—Chief Detective Inspector Charles Field quickly surmises that these crimes are connected to an even more sinister plot. Was Victoria really the assassin’s target? Are those closest to the Crown hiding something? And who is the shadowy figure witnesses describe as having lifeless, coal-black eyes?

Soon, Field’s investigation exposes a shocking conspiracy in which the publication of Charles Darwin’s controversial On the Origin of Species sets off a string of murders, arson, kidnapping, and the pursuit of a madman named the Chorister. As the investigation takes Field from the dangerous alleyways of London to the hallowed halls of Oxford, the list of possible conspirators grows, and the body count escalates. And as he edges closer to the Chorister, he uncovers dark secrets that were meant to remain forever hidden. Tim Mason has created a rousing page-turner that both Charles Dickens and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle would relish and envy.” – Description from https://biglibraryread.com/current-title/
