Hope & HeartbreakJoin author Scott Brown on Wednesday, October 2 at 6:30pm at Ligonier Valley Library as he shares stories, lessons, and more from his newest book, Hope & Heartbreak.

Scott Brown, a Greensburg native and former sports reporter for the Tribune-Review, ESPN and the Philadelphia Inquirer, mined a decade of reports on the drug epidemic to produce a heartfelt compendium of the lives of those living this nightmare in the region where he grew up. Brown will be on hand for a discussion of his new book and a book signing event. The Forward for the book was written by former Pittsburgh Penguins star
Kevin Stevens. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.

Hope & Heartbreak: Beyond the numbers of the Opioid Epidemic by Scott Brown

A father who lost his 20-year-old son to an overdose and refused to stay silent. A mother who fulfilled a promise to write an honest obituary if her 20-year-old daughter died from an overdose—and hasn’t stopped telling their heartbreaking story. Carmen Capozzi and Michelle Schwartzmier are linked in a way that no parents ever should be. What happened to them can happen to anyone and their stories epitomize the tragedy and inspiration that author Scott Brown found while chronicling the opioid epidemic for almost a year.

Featuring a foreword by two-time Stanley Cup winner and Pittsburgh Penguins star, Kevin Stevens, “Hope & Heartbreak: Beyond The Numbers of the Opiod Epidemic” takes readers through the grassroots of America’s No. 1 health crisis and looks at it through the people who are living it. Their experiences shine a light on a complex problem to which there is no easy answer. Their stories will make you cry, smile, question—and can help you save someone you love.
